How to Make Wine Coasters

Many years ago at a craft show, I saw a coaster for wine glasses which could be affixed to the bottom of the wine stem. With a collection of these coasters in many different colors, it is an easy solution to help everyone identify whose glass is whose.

How to make Wine Glass Coaster

Step 1: Cut 6 squares 5"x5"

Step 2: fold four of the squares in half. Press with iron or Easy Press to flatten.

Step 3: Weave the four folded pieces together with the folded side toward the center. In this photo I'm just pushing the last rectangle in place.

Here's what it looks like once the 4 rectangles are woven together.

Step 4 (not pictured): put the last two squares wrong sides together and place on top of the set of 4 woven-together rectangles. Align neatly.

Step 5: stitch around the outer edge of the squares sandwich about 1/4" from edge (it doesn't have to be exactly 1/4"). I usually stitch straight off each side and then turn it and start from edge again so that the crossed threads lock in a good corner. When done stitching, cut off the points of each corner and turn right side out through the center opening. Iron flat.

OPTIONAL: If you have a Cricut Joy or other cutting machine, personalize your coaster by cutting some designs less than 2" x 2" from Iron-On Heat Transfer Vinyl. Weed the design then place it on the coaster. Press for 30 seconds at 315F with Cricut Easy Press 2 on a pressing mat. Let cool, then peel off backing.

Step 7: Put the coaster on the base of a wine glass stem then pour in your favorite beverage and enjoy your creation.

"What'cha Drinking?"

Make a batch of these in various colors for your next dinner party or social event.

CHEERS!

HAPPY CRAFTING!
